Live and Always Learn

Live and learn from life-experiences, especially when you fall-down. Don't use previous mistakes as excuses when trying to get up in order to achieve your "happiness" - especially at someone else's expense. Reflect on the past and know those experiences will help you overcome the next obstacle. Mid-year 2012 has made me realize life is a continued journey of learning.

Starting to sense a theme...

It seems like I have been spending all my free time at the beach. For some reason, the camera has been driving me there recently. I've realized I'm lucky living next to the ocean and should take more advantage of my surroundings -- as a lot of people may not be so lucky as I am :-)

Anyways, I snapped these yesterday during my jog with my iPhone camera and modified with the Camera+ iPhone app.

Pixlr-o-matic: First Pics!!

I haven't had a chance to peruse any new iPhone camera apps. Last week my friend (also an avid photographer) told me about this new camera app: Pixlr-o-matic (aka awesomeness!). I think I've found my new best friend at the cost of $0.99 :-)

Last week I made a trip to Joshua Tree National Park where I had a blast taking pictures all day with my iPhone camera and Nikon. I met my friends at Union Station in downtown LA before departing to Joshua Tree where I took this picture inside Union Station using the Pixlr-o-matic application on my iPhone. (Can you see all the people standing in line buying train tickets back in the 1940s?? :-)

Here are others from Joshua Tree using the Pixlromatic application. I still have a lot of playing to do with this new app. Keep you guys posted.

Oldie but Goodie

I just came across an old picture from my trip to New York City back in December 2010 (I was visiting for New Years). The old picture was taken from the top of the Empire State Building. I modified the picture using the Camera+   "So Emo" (lol) setting - and it looks AMAZING!!

Fun Facts about the Empire State Building:
- it was the world's tallest building at 102 stories from 1931 to 1972
- the first building in the world with more than 100 floors
- took one year and 45 days to build
-  it has its own zip code!!
- every Valentine's day couples get married on the 80th floor and get free admission to the Observatories deck every Valentine's day for life

!Buenas Noches!

Feel Free as a Bird

"That little bird has chosen his shelter. Above it are the stars and the deep heaven of worlds. Yet he is rocking himself to sleep without caring for tomorrow's lodging, calmly clinging to his little twig, and leaving God to think for him"

Nikon 1J Camera: First Shot

I did the unthinkable and went out to splurge on a Nikon J1 at Costco today. I've been wanting a good camera for a while - so what the heck! (and it will serve a good purpose by snapping memories when I visit Europe in Sept!)

It's been in my hands for a couple of hours now and I'm still figuring out the ins and outs. It drove me to Ventura in the aim of snapping some shots during sunset, but I was somewhat late. The sun was already setting. I snapped this pic and modified the lightning with the Camera+ app (clarity => special: cross process) and VOILA!

Less Parking and More Green, Open Space

Took this picture on Broadway and 9th in downtown LA. The street art piece is by renowned British street artist Bansky. His street art can be found all over the world and has become synonymous with rebellion and contested as a form of artistic expression around today's social issues. This piece denotes LA's car-dependancy (you see the little girl swinging on the A referencing the need for a playground) and excessive reliance on car culture and the city's need for more green and open space (and of course, realiable and comprehensive public transit).

Picture taken with the Camera+ pinhole setting.

It's been a while...

Don't think I've forgotten about you....

In my attempt to finish a cap and trade policy analysis paper by next Wednesday (fun!), I remembered about this blog I started almost a year ago. So here I am again (not sure if someone even reads this??) Anyways, I decided to stop my frugal ways a couple of months ago and invest in the C+ camera iPhone app (yes, $1.99 is a bit much for me ;-) and I am completely in love. With the recent news of Facebook $1 billion dollar Instragram buy, I'd say C+ app is much better. I initially started using the Instragram app for my special picture effects, but after my $1.99 investment - I'm never going back!

Anyways, here are a couple of snapshots (modified with the Instagram and Camera+ iPhone apps) from last July until now. As you can see, I visited the Grand Canyon. It's so beautiful - you really can't take a bad picture. At nighttime, you can even touch the stars!

Hope to make more blogposts soon. I'm planning a trip to yosemite (never been in springtime - which is the best time to go), so a lot of picture opps coming up! Goodnight!
